Brother Klaus - Our companion through life

Niklaus von Flüe lived from 1417 to 1487. His contemporaries looked upon him as a living saint, and regarded «Brother Klaus» as peacemaker and personal advisor when they sought him out in the Ranft valley. This deep respect and admiration lasted for centuries and received a fresh impetus after he was canonised by the Catholic Church in 1947. Today, all over the world, many churches, chapels and schools are consecrated to Niklaus von Flüe, the patron Saint of Peace in Switzerland.

The earliest references to Niklaus von Flüe and his wife Dorothee were written during their life-time. Only their image changed over the centuries as people continually gave different interpretations. This little booklet gives us a short insight into the lives of Niklaus and Dorothee, and aims to offer us a personal approach to their lives, attuning our ear to their message. Whoever seeks peace and tranquillity, as Niklaus von Flüe did, will discover a new world full of riches.
